LORDS OF BLACK
Here are some of the new albums coming out today:
Sevendust – All I See Is War
The Atlanta band which has consistently delivered with their brand of hard rock and metal, their self-titled debut came out 21 years ago, and they’re back with their 12th studio album. Again, along the lines with everything that you’ve constantly loved by the band, but they always manage to tweak things, or slide things in there that you may not have expected from the band. So instead of it just being the same old, same old, there is always something new going on with the band.
Bad Wolves – Disobey
Doc Coyle, former God Forbid guitarist, and the host of The Ex Man Podcast is back with a new band called Bad Wolves. The band is fronted by Tommy Vext, former singer of bands like Dino Cazares’ Divine Heresy and Snot.
Tommy also stood in for Ian Moody in Five Finger Death Punch, when he was dealing with some issues last year. The band gained notoriety earlier this year because they were about to have Dolores O’Riordan guest on their version of The Cranberries classic “Zombie”, unfortunately, she passed away before she was able to step into the studio with the band.
For those of you looking for God Forbid or even Divine Heresy, you’ll be disappointed, think more along the lines of Stone Sour or a lot of the bands on Eleven Seventeen Management (who manages them), such as Papa Roach. Still worth checking out if you’re into modern radio hard rock.
Jizzy Pearl – All You Need Is Soul
The unmistakable voice from one of the most loved hard rock bands of the early 1990’s has returned. Jizzy Pearl of Love/Hate is back with this brand new solo album.
Lords Of Black – Icons Of The New Days
This is essentially a Spanish supergroup, many know in-demand Ronnie Romero due to being part of Rainbow (and a bunch of other groups), but the other components of the band have been part of the heavy metal/power metal scene in Spain for years. What I like about the album is although it’s classified as a progressive metal or power metal, that it’s on the heavier spectrum of things, closer to say a Sons Of Apollo than Hammerfall.
But there are those elements here too, if you’ve come to check out your typical power metal band on Frontiers Records, you’re covered, because there are a few tracks like that on the album, but the rest lean towards the heavier side of the band. If you get to check out the deluxe edition of the album you’ll find covers of Queen, Anthrax, Bruce Dickinson, and Journey.
I have to say Ronnie sounds eerily like Freddie Mercury in spots on their cover of “Innuendo”, same with their cover of “Tears Of The Dragon”, originally recorded by Iron Maiden lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson for his solo album Balls To Picasso.
