Here are some of the new albums that come out today:

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats – Wasteland

Here’s an album that a lot of reviewers are already pegging as album of the year. The band has always had a stoner rock type feel, super fuzzed out instruments, mixed with Ghost-like vocals, this time around extra falsetto, with a very lo-fi approach.

To the point where Wasteland seems to be missing the bottom end, not like And Justice For All, where the guitars are turned way up, and the bass can’t be heard. It’s more like the bass just isn’t there, as in the bassist didn’t plugin, or they forgot to put a mic to his amp! That said, it’s still ultra-catchy, and still extremely entertaining for me.

D.D. Verni – Barricade

The Overkill bassist is releasing his first solo album, and there are a sick number of guests on this album, everyone from former Overkill drummer Ron Lipnicki, to Jeff Lummis, Jeff Waters, Mike Romero, Mike Orlando, Virus, and a bunch more.

Although D.D. is the main songwriter (from a musical standpoint) in Overkill, much like Bronx Casket Company, the material here has some of the flavors of what he adds to his main band, but he takes some more chances with the material, perhaps a little bit less thrashy, but at the same time pulling in different elements of hard rock and metal.

Luicidal – Born In Venice

When I first heard that a band was going to be covering Suicidal Tendencies “Institutionalized” in Spanish, I thought, wow this is going to suck, because that’s usually how these things turn out. I love Suicidal, I’ve seen them a bunch of times, and almost every time I’ve seen them at a festival people tell me “they were the best band tonight”.

So I thought, ok, let me go into this with an open mind. Wait, and it’s going to be a female on vocals? Turns out the cover is faithful to the original, lyrics and all, they’re almost an exact translation to Spanish.

The only difference is instead of saying Pepsi, which does exist in at least Spain, they say Coca, in other words, Coke. The rest is spot on.

When I dug into who this band was, it all made sense, it was formed by Louiche Mayorga, the bassist on the Suicidal Tendencies self-titled debut. If you’re looking for crossover thrash aka that era of Suicidal, look no further.

Impellitteri – The Nature Of The Beast

American shredder Chris Impellitteri is back with his eleventh studio album, teaming once again with Rob Rock on vocals, bassist James Pulli, who has been with the band since 92, and former Slayer drummer Jon Dette in the studio, while Yngwie Malmsteen drummer Patrick Johansson will take over for live dates.

If you’ve loved the teaming of Impellitteri and Rock in the past, well then this album is going to be right up your alley.
