Hollywood Vampires Rise

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES RELEASE NEW VIDEO

Hollywood Vampires are about to release their second album, Rise on June 21st.  With bands like Chickenfoot, and Black Country Communion falling flat for me, this band has been a “supergroup” that I have enjoyed.  Not everything has been great, but some of their songs have been pretty good, and I’m digging these first two tracks they’ve released in advance before the album’s release. They’re not reinventing the wheel, but it’s been some pretty entertaining rock n roll.

People have been making a big deal out of Slipknot’s new masks, and the pending first look at their updated costumes. A band with such a following, notoriety, and infamy is going to garner the whole “their not as good as they used to be”, but I have to tell you, I’m really liking the two songs they’ve released off of We Are Not Your Kind, which drops on August 9th.

What’s Black Star Riders going to sound like without Damon Johnson? Dare I say more like Thin Lizzy? The band has added Stone Sour’s Christian Martucci, and this track is written by him and lead singer/guitarist Ricky Warwick. This is the title track to their upcoming release Another State Of Grace.

Ritchie Blackmore has decided to do something a bunch of fans has been asking for some time, which is re-record some of his Blackmore’s Night material with Rainbow. “The Storm” is just that, it originally appeared on the 2001 release Fires At Midnight.  I wonder if he would entertain doing an entire album of his other band’s material in a more electrified approach?

I’ve been a fan of Alien Weaponry since the first time I’ve heard them, their mix of metal with their native Maori lyrics and instrumentation reminds me of a modern age roots era Sepultura. This video premiered about a week ago, but still wanted to include it because, well, I like the song!

The Hives are another band that I’ve really liked since the beginning and have followed them for the last two decades.  They’re a band I still play on a somewhat frequent basis, when bands like The White Stripes, The Vines, and every The named rock band came and went, or faded into obscurity thanks to their lack of decent material, The Hives have always delivered with each of their releases, at least for me they have.

Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has promised that the band’s upcoming release will be heavier than their last few albums. The new song “Bullet Holes” is featured in the new John Wick movie.  Looking forward to the movie, and to the new album, haters be damned!

Eat Your Heart Out is a modern rock band, where most seem to rely on the same old same old to try and get on the radio, this caught my ear. The playing reminds me of heavier-edged 90s alt-rock that I still love to this day.  Given that it’s female vocals, it does remind me of Veruca Salt to an extent, especially the Bob Ezrin produced Eight Arms To Hold You.
