POPPY IS BACK
Here are some of today’s releases:
Poppy – I Disagree
It may annoy people that Poppy is on this list, because you know metal purists/elitists think she has no business being considered anything remotely hard rock or metal. Much like Babymetal, Poppy is here to stay. She mixes pop and metal with her latest release I Disagree. In my opinion, anyone that has no problem mixing this amount of heaviness into their music is ok by me.
She is bringing metal to an audience that surely wouldn’t give the genre a chance otherwise. The message doesn’t vary all that much from say an old school Dio album, where rebellion, being yourself, and not taking any shit are overall themes throughout.
Is it for everyone? Probably not, if you have an open mind, give the album a try, I’m sure more than one track will stick out to you.
Haunt – Mind Freeze
If this band hasn’t been on your radar, you really need to check them out. Especially if you’re into newer bands releasing NWOBHM style heavy metal.
The California band has been gaining steam over the last few years, as the hype has mounted with the release of each full-length album, splits, and EP. For those keeping track, this is actually the band’s third full length.
Rage – Wings of Rage
The band started back in 1983, and although they’ve had a revolving door of musicians, their current lineup has been intact since 2015. This is the third full length with Vassilios “Lucky” Maniatopoulos on the drums, and Marcos Rodríguez on guitar, with the ever so present Peter “Peavy” Wagner on bass and vocals.
The album is a continuation of what they’ve done since the inception of this lineup, old-school heavy metal and thrash, mixed in with modern production.
