MARK MORTON RETURNS WITH ETHER
One of my favorite releases of 2019 was Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton’s solo album Anesthetic. A lot of artists have released similar albums, where it’s full of guest singers, but the songs are just kind of blah.
Either cheap imitations of what the singer normally does, or something that’s pretty forgettable. Anesthetic is cool because each song is different, no two tracks sounded alike, and although Morton could have just released a L.O.G. lite album, he didn’t. The album meandered between flat-out metal and plain old hard rock.
A lot of artists wouldn’t have done that for fear it would alienate their fan base. But Morton did it in a way where he wasn’t looking for the obvious top 40 radio hits, that makes so many others put out these types of albums.
It really feels like he wrote what he wanted without compromising to anything or anyone. He’s about to release a new acoustic EP called Ether, it will feature some of the same people involved on his previous solo debut, along with others, like Lzzy Hale and Howard Jones that weren’t on the full length.
I for one am super pumped to hear it. The EP will be released on January 17th, and will feature the following tracklisting and guests:
Ether tracklisting:
“All I Had To Lose” (featuring Mark Morales)
“The Fight” (featuring John Carbone)
“She Talks To Angels” (featuring Lzzy Hale)
“Love My Enemy” (featuring Howard Jones)
“Black” (featuring Mark Morales)
Says MARK MORTON, “I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my new, five-song EP, Ether, on Rise Records! Once again, I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some amazingly talented artists and friends to assemble this collection of tunes, all of which feature a strong acoustic guitar component.
Inspired by the acoustic sets I had the opportunity to perform last spring and summer in support of ‘Anesthetic,’ I began writing some new songs to reflect that more mellow vibe. I’m stoked with the results and I can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been putting together.
I’ll be debuting these tunes on my upcoming U.K. acoustic tour, so you can hear them live before they’re released anywhere else!”
“I continue to be honored to have the chance to work with so many incredibly talented people and I remain beyond grateful to the fans that have come along with me and supported these projects. Thanks so much, everyone!”
First single from Ether, “All I Had to Lose” featuring Mark Morales, will be released on January 10.
