SLASH IS JAMMING ON IDEAS FOR NEW GUNS N ROSES MATERIAL
WITH AXL AND DUFF
Slash was recently interviewed by former Grim Reaper guitarist Nick Bowcott for Sweetwater. During the interview Slash had this to say about working on new Guns N Roses material (transcribed by Blabbermouth):
“I’ve been pretty much a homebody, but I’ve been back and forth between my studio in the house and doing a lot of writing and recording on my own. I’ve been jamming with Duff [McKagan, GUNS N’ ROSES bassist] and I’ve been jamming with Axl [Rose, GUNS N’ ROSES singer], and I’ve been doing stuff like that, so we’ve been getting some work done that way. But I haven’t been doing much else. I haven’t been doing any collaborations with the odd artists and whatnot. [I’m] basically just focusing on writing new music and recording demos and recording guitar stuff for GUNS and whatnot.”
Is this the silver lining to this pandemic, new GNR? Every article you read, references Chinese Democracy. A lot has changed since then, pairing Slash and Duff back up with Axl seems to have reinvigorated him. For example, this lineup of the band isn’t making people wait a colosal amount of time to hit the stage. Axl always seems to be on his game and in a good spirits. Something that couldn’t always be said in the past. Maybe the same thing will be true when it comes to hitting the recording studio? Or may be that’s wishful thinking on my behalf.
THROW BACK TO TALKING METAL HANGING OUT WITH SLASH:
Chinese Democracy was one of the biggest selling albums of 2008. It was released on November 23rd, with little to no press. Understand how big of a deal that actually is, it was released 38 days before the end of the year. It still outsold the majority of albums that came out in the previous 327 days. Say what you want about the album, but that’s an impressive feat that very few bands can still pull off.
Credit goes to the band’s rabid fan base, and how monumentally big albums like Appetite For Destruction, and the two Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 actually are. These albums are still charting in 2020, as is a greatest hits package by the band. A new album with this current line up will move a ton of albums on every available medium. Will it surpass Appetite for an old school fan? You know the “it’s not as good” crowd. Hey, probably not, but that doesn’t mean that the majority of the fan base isn’t craving for new material by the band.
Regardless when the band decides to release new music, it will be huge.
