TERRY ILOUS IS BACK WITH LAND OF GYPSIES
French rocker Terry Ilous is best known for fronting the bands XYZ and Great White. XYZ is a band that came on the scene probably too late in the game to really make the dent they could have. That’s not knocking them or their talent, it’s just some bands come to the forefront when the wave is already dying out.
His two albums with Great White were just okay in my opinion. Nothing really special, considering what the band had done in the past. And more than likely it wasn’t Terry’s fault. He’s coming into an established band where he was probably just an employee. As a result, blaming him for the shortcomings of everything that band has done post-Jack Russell is kind of unfair.
When I first received promotional material pertaining to this album, I figured it would be a continuation of some Flamenco-inspired music Terry had worked on in the past. Land Of Gypsies is just straight-up classic rock. You’re mixing in Terry’s soulful vocals, with Deep Purple-ish Hammond organs, and old school rock in the vein that Frontiers Records is known for.
If you’re a fan of Terry Ilous’ previous work or enjoy what Frontiers Records has to offer, I suggest you give the self-titled debut album by Land Of Gypsies a shot.
Here is Land Of Gypsies with the track "Shattered" off of their self-titled debut album.
